the unringing phone
i think
there's something wrong
with the phone.
it hasn't
rung in days.
i pick it up
and listen to the dial tone.
the long
benign
buzz of the world out
there,
disconnected,
not calling me.
maybe later.
i'll stay nearby
just in case.

December
(177)
small cheer and great welcome make a merry feast
the long night
the human cookie
the prodigal cow
holidays in south beach
one red glove
the best gift ever
holiday warfare
the cost of poetry
and then the thought passes
dying on a pot of gold
a country cupcake in hand
a box of life
the winter journey
sugarplum and fairies
the secret of a long marriage
as the train pulls away
taking the subway
we can fix this
stay away from mirrors
the mega party church
let's play victim
when the mask slips
one of Santa's many helpers
my new home in the city
this is a bad idea
What's going on?
awaiting snow
airing their grievances
summertime flowers
none of this is my fault
the crowd going by
streets of dim lights
eating a giant turkey leg
kissing Donna Reed
no resolutions
complete self awareness
the frost of night
first glimpse at nudity as a child
the basement reading room
buying a birdcage for the newspaper
i like what you've done with that tree this year
Joe's hardware in town
a pet free zone?
please be aliens up there
i'll pray for you
the rose bushes have thorns
hard candy to find
Irwin's sudden departure
a goal for the day
the sloe gin celebration
a drone for Christmas
the bucket list in reverse
bringing sand back with me
when the hunter gets captured by the game
the first day of school
bathroom decorating
we can't sleep for different reasons
cutting through the fog
those sticky keys
the talk turns serious
i regret that i will not be able to attend the dinner
the third and final wife
to be blind
the juicier bone
a savior in overalls
nothing to see here, all is well
president elect
what knees are for
not a lost moment
if you could read my mind
the red tin of cookies
checking on the temperature
bread to die for
the writer's group
seven games on tv today
taking the bullet train
your long left leg
i'm not lost, just delayed
as long as you don't get married again
waiting for my presidential pardon
the incident at St. Raymond's
the narcissistic pandemic
yes, it is cold out today
delete block and no contact
the one cure all for all ailments
110 over 75 after you visit
drones and the slanted roof
back scratching instructions
planning the big holiday party
what's mine is not yours
last light
beyond the rough
go on, it's your turn now
the Christmas Sweater
we haven't changed
dazed and confused at the Mall
autobiographies of Hollywood stars
we were all beautiful once
i think he ghosted me
