hit by a train
heading north, hardly
had a chance,
since he
refused to step
aside
and get out of the way.
he could hear
the whistle blowing,
hear the rumble
of the wheels
against the steel
tracks, but no.
he kept walking just
the same.
he spent
his whole life
being careful,
avoiding
falls,
and cuts, bruises,
scrapes
and burns, and now
this,
engine number five
running
him over.
