i peruse the books

in the bookcase

in the den. the one

reserved

for psychology tomes,

self help books,

the DSM,

spirituality,

philosophy, anything

needed

for a fix, or mend.

some are band aids, some

resuscitate

the heart.

some are transfusions

of thought,

others, are surgical,

diving deep

with a sharp knife

into the mind to find

out where and when

all of this

dysfunction began.

all are worn, well used.

studied.

ready and on alert

for the next time

i fall into the well of

a relationship

which isn't true.
