to tie a ribbon around things
and call it
closure. we desire
a rational conversation
ending things,
with polite and bitterless
words,
maybe a hug
farewell, saying,
with a wave, take care,
but it doesn't always happen
that way.
sometimes there
is no ribbon,
no string to tie around
the crushed box
of a relationship.
it's empty,
the sides caved in,
there is no bottom to speak of,
no top.
it's best to just carry it
out to the curb,
slap your hands together
and be done
with it.
