the mother
reads her son to sleep.
he falls
and falls away
into that slumber that
only children
know.
it's before they have
joined the world.
before work, before money.
before love and death,
loss
and suffering.
they are still safe
and sound
in the bubble of youth.
the rest will follow
in time.
