a room with a view

it's a room,
a small room with a bed.
not a cell
exactly
but a place to stay
for now,
to rest her head.
the past is around her,
on the upper floor,
in the other rooms,
and out the window,
across the woods,
the water,
where she longingly
waits
for him to rescue
her once more.
the priests will be over
for dinner,
prayers will be said,
but everyone is left
unknowing about the truth,
why bother,
let's pretend it never
happened.
let's hold hands
and pray and laugh
and smile and be happy
instead.
let's put a shine on
that rotting apple
and turn it so that
the worm is never seen.
