you go out
early in the morning
to fetch
some brown eggs
from the chicken
coop
and milk the cow.
the cow
wags her tail
as if she's glad
to see you.
and who wouldn't
be at that
hour
of the day
on a cold farm.
the welcome
the warm hands
and pull.
you walk by the pigs
and throw
them some scraps
of food from
last nights dinner.
they snort and
bounce around off
of one another
rolling in
the mud, as they
like to do.
you've got fences
to fix,
horses to shoe.
