loose change

you are saving pennies.
dropping coins
into a jar
in the corner
of the kitchen.
there's one
in the basement
too, a tin can
that speaks when
the dime rattles
against the rim.
it sits beside
the dryer that spits
them noisily out
onto the floor.
there are lots of
coins. pocket
change. loose change.
parking meter
change for when
there used to be
meters that took
change.
but things have
constantly changed
and not always for
the better,
and the pennies
don't and won't
add up anymore.
