with each new sniffle, or cough,
or ache,
we question whether or not
we have it.
who were we with, how close,
whose hand
did we shake,
whose lips did we kiss.
do we have it.
we touch our heads for fever,
we stare
into the mirror, we stick
out our tongues.
is the breath short.
do we thirst, does the head
pound, are the joints sore?
will this be the end of me
if so,
do we have it?
