we get lost
in the cave, straying
off
the path
roped
and lit
for our safety. we
want
to see more, so go further
inside.
we want
some danger, some
chaos,
to rebel
at what we've been told.
we want
to see where the bats
are,
where the rocks
are sharp and slippery.
we want
to smell the danger
of the cave,
of the ancient wet
walls.
we want to see the bones
of the dead,
hear the murmurs
of things
we know nothing about.
we stray off the beaten
path.
then go back.
we're not that crazy.
