we choose the shoes
we wear.
the shirts, the pants.
we decide
where to work.
what to eat,
who to love, or who
to dismiss
as meaningless in our
lives.
we choose worry
over faith.
indulgence over fasting.
we rush and hurry
when we should wait.
we make our beds
and lie in them.
we lead ourselves astray
taking
the wrong roads,
the wrong fates.
we do it all
and then complain
as if we had nothing
to do or say
about it.
