saying goodbye

it's hard to say goodbye.
to stand
at the curb
and wave, and wave.
and wave.
you use your other arm
as she sits
at a stop sign
then a red light.
she keeps waving too.
the both of you
waving.
her looking back,
you smiling, but losing
the smile.
finally she turns the corner
and is out of sight.
you wait for a second,
thinking she might
turn around and come
back, then
you put your arm
down.
it's hard saying
goodbye.
