you need to write
a poem with longer lines
she tells you
from her car
phone, while grading
high school English
papers.
I'm tired of these
short little blips
of words.
strung out like
wet clothes on a line.
do some stanzas. go
look at frost
or Whitman, even
crazy Ginsberg
for god's sake.
change it up, you're
stuck in a poetic
mud with sameness.
step out of yourself
and be bold, be
different, don't
be afraid to change
it up.
