each
sense keeping
him
tethered
to the world.
but
then
he didn't smell
the cats.
or hear
the birds
building a
nest in
the attic,
he no longer
could see
the mail
on the floor
coming
through the slot,
or taste
the tea
he boiled
on the stove.
there was no one
there to touch,
so that was
gone too.
and madness
ensued.
