you stop
hanging the ornaments
on the tree,
aligning
the lights,
putting the star
at the top.
dropping tinsel
onto the branches.
no matter what
you do it's
not right, it's
an inch or two
to the left or
or right, you're
off.
so you give up
go back to the couch
and stare out
the window
at real stars,
real lights.
and wonder
what love might
really be like.
