sunday at the zoo

the animals
in the zoo seem
tired this sunday
as the tourists
invade the paths
and trails
with strollers
and cones of
cotton candy.
sodas and sandwiches
in hand.
they lanquish
in slouched poses
behind
the old bars
caught and waiting
against their
will. but fed
well too, like those
on the other side.
the apathy seems
mutual.
