mass

she used her
religion like a bar
of soap.
a sunday morning
bath from
friday and saturday
nights roll
in the proverbial
mud. but i
understood her
completely as
she lifted her body
out of bed,
stumbled
into the bathroom
and put on her
white dress
and church shoes,
dont get up, she'd
say, i'll be right back,
it's a short mass.
