how they go
away, what shall
i compare them
to. leaves falling,
no, too cliche
and boring, waves
that wash upon
the shore then subside
when the tide
goes out, no. that
doesn't work either,
how about flames
that flicker and
fade, the ember
going black when it
once burned bright,
or fruit that
dies upon the vine
before being tasted,
we're getting closer
now. it's complex.
like all of nature.
like dreams.
what you see
is never really
what you get.
