selective memory

she left
the stove on
and the pot
boiled over
setting off
the smoke alarm.
she left
the water
running,
and the pipes
froze. she
forgot to
close the door,
and the dog
ran away,
and the room
filled up
with birds.
she locked
her keys in
the car, she
lost her cell
phone,
she forgot
to take her
medication and
couldn't find
her way home.
she forgot
her purse,
left it in
the grocery
cart, next to
the bag of
groceries.
and yet,
despite
all this,
she remembers
every single word
and thing
in detail
as to what
i did and said
to make
her mad seven
years ago.
