the broken window

her broken
window, says
everything.
the cardboard
patch
taped down
by her long
fingers, slipping
loose as
the weather
changes to cold,
peeling
it back.
the wind
whistles softly
into
the house.
it curls around
her arms,
her neck
as she sits
in her room,
sipping tea
to stay warm,
pondering what
was,
not thinking
what next.
