when they say, i've changed

i like to hear

the story of when people change

for the better.

they've done the work,

the therapy.

they've read the books.

church is in the mix.

confession.

they've turned over a new

leaf, they tell you, 

and anyone that will listen.

they want the past

forgotten.

they want their life

to have a new start,

with all forgiven,

they are

full now of magical thinking.

and you accept that,

with your mind,

but forgiveness comes hard,

or never when

you deal with a heart.
