asleep
on the side of the road.

the radio on.
the window down,
a flask of jack daniels in
my hand.
there is a road map
with an x
in the middle
in red ink.
i'm wearing a tuxedo
with shiny shoes.
there is a carnation
in my lapel.
they shake me awake
and say hey,

you're going to be late.
get going,
go now.
you can make it.
she's standing there
at the altar.
she seems mad,
everyone seems angry.

so i drive off
