with so many green stamps
stuck into
the book, you can get
a new toaster
or a Gillette razor.
maybe a coffee
maker, or a clock with a
rooster head
to hang in the kitchen.
such wonderful
gifts to one's self
for doing nothing,
but collecting
green stamps, year in,
year out, staring
at the empty pages
yet to be filled,
the promise of things
to come.
