some books you can't put down,
savoring each word,
each turn of plot. you don't
want them to end.
others, no matter what the high
praise blurbs read
you can hardly hold
them in your hand, drag your
eyes across another line.
these books are quicksand.
heavy and thick, good for one
thing, holding the door open
when the wind picks up
and swings.
