a furtive line of clouds
brings rain.
reluctant rain. just a drop
of two at first.
a breeze lets you sit
down
on the porch
and watch
how the storm moves in.
the blue
bundle of clouds,
ribboned white,
with lightning.
the chimes
ring,
the rooster, rusted
red, on the far
roof
spins
the dog sits beside you,
lapping cool air.
together
you wait patiently
for it to begin.
