it was the day
she put away her winter clothes.
in late spring,
neatly
into boxes.
sweaters and knits
to the cedar chest,
the careful folds.
long boots,
and boots for snow
placed back
into the dark corner
of a closet.
it was that day,
that she stopped and sat
on the bed
and cried.
remembering things.
