he put his keys
into the freezer, next
to the frozen
meat, the bag of peas
and carrots,
the trays of ice,
and left the milk on
the counter,
the eggs went into
the oven.
he forgot his dog's
name, calling him,
hey, come here
let's go for a walk.
once around
the block he couldn't
remember where he lived,
or his own name,
which house was
his.
when they found him,
he was a new man
free from his past,
ready to start over
in an unknown land
with strangers soon
to be friends.
