higher ground

she said she'd call.
but you don't hear from her.
she says,
tomorrow, or the next day.
maybe we can get together.
she says a lot of things
she doesn't mean.
such as I miss you.
we need to catch up
and have a drink. maybe dinner,
or take a walk.
she said she'd call,
but you know what the truth
is.
she won't, which is okay.
because you won't either,
the phone lines go both ways
and it's best to move on
to higher ground anyway.
