locking up

the door won't close.
the heat
has warped
the wood to a point
of it being too tight
to shut
and lock.
you push and push,
but to no avail,
the heat
is too much.
the world is expanding
and getting
more dangerous
as you sweat
and put the chain on
to keep out
whatever might
try to get in. you
remember as a child
leaving the windows open,
the doors unlocked,
the screen door
free and easy
for the dog and cat
to come and go
as they pleased,
no more.
