it was a small house
ten feet from
the road
with a mud
driveway and a dog
chained to a
mulberry tree
out front.

the color
of poor, hung
unbalanced in front
of a picture
window
where the curtain
was twisted
from being peeked
out so often
to see who was
at the door.
it was not heart
breaking or sad,
quite the opposite.
it was nostalgic.
you could smell
cabbage
cooking on a stove.
