your neighbor
steals your sunday
paper on a regular basis.
you've never caught
him red handed but
you see him with
it in his backyard.
he sits in his green
lawn chair and suns
himself as he turns
the pages,
chuckling lightly
at the stupid comics,
something you'd
never do. he seems
delighted with
his stolen newspaper,
so you order one
for him, in fact
you order a whole
months subscription,
including sundays.
the next sunday,
you wait on your porch
in your robe
waiting for the paper
to arrive,
and for your neighbor
to open his door
and be surprised,
by what awaits him,
but he pretends that he
isn't surprised and leans
over to pick up the paper
as if it was normal
thing to do.
you wave and smile,
and say, hey check out
doonsebury this morning
very very funny.
he nods, arching his
eyebrows. he has no
idea who he's dealing with.
