unanswered prayers

over and over
again,
you send a prayer
up. first on your knees
with head bowed,
eyes closed.
then you try
standing
on your head.
you wave
your arms to
the sky, you stamp
your feet like
a child who
wants candy.
you even bark like
your dog
does when
you are making
meatloaf. all day
and night you
do nothing
but pray and pray.
until someone tells
you that maybe, just
maybe the answer
is no. this makes
you very unhappy.
you don't like that
answer.
