you see the brush
of the archaeologist
smoothing the dust
off a skull, the bleached
thin curve
of bone. carefully
he sweeps away
the dirt of centuries
to get to the inch
of remains, then from
there he builds
what he wants to
claim. and i do
the same with you,
taking your simple
kiss, or one kind
word and making
us into one whole
being.
