a new bridge

i like this new
bridge. it's strong
and sturdy. the wind
will make it sway,
but it won't go
down into the deep
sleeve of river
that rolls below it.
i like the steel,
the shine of it,
the long smooth
cables that hold
it up. i like the way
it looks in the sun
from a distance,
rising high. i feel
safe crossing this
bridge, take my hand
and come with me, let's
get to the other side.
