you can smell the earth
burn on the wind, as it
sweeps through the dry
brush of california, the
waves of fire taking
everything in it's path.
nature finds a way of
bringing us not only to
our knees, but to put
us on the run, humbled
and fearful of what we
can't control or
understand. in time, all
of this and us are dust
and ash, and yet we cling
to the notion of forever,
because otherwise there is
no point and the fire has
no memory of what it takes.
