two goats

you go around
the room
and say your piece.
what's new
in your life.
what plans do you
have for the summer
as vacation begins.
and it's the same
for most, a new
book, a trip
to the shore
or mountains.
perhaps a garden,
or the rooms painted
with a fresh coat.
but then someone
says that
she's acquired
two goats.
which makes
everyone both happy
and amazed.
what more is there
to say.
