acquire a drinking problem that you solve
and unsolve,
depending on the time of year.
some blood along the way would help.
get fired, get hired, get fired,
repeat until you realize that there is
nothing in this world
you are truly good at.
fall in and out of love like birds do.
stare long and hard into the mirror
until you no longer care.
you're almost ready to begin.
a hard desk will do,
a ream of paper,
a good writing pen,
dispel all notions of fame and fortune.
get away from people
for as long as you can, but remember
you'll need them
later
when the well runs dry.
