cat world

she left everything
to her cats.
the house, the car,
the retirement fund.
stocks and bonds,

the cash.
her children,
despite her kindness
and generosity
throughout their lives
got nothing.
they never loved her, 

not in the way
children should love
a mother.
so it all went to the cats,
despite their
aloofness
and needs when needed.
not unlike
the kids when you think
of it.
