there was never
not
milk
and bread on the table.
fish
was scarce, meat rare.
it was
always
chicken
or pasta, which was fine
dining
for us.
sometimes there'd be
a prayer,
but most of the time
we were
like ravenous wolves,
we'd dig
in.
each fork unwilling
to share.
