i'm not charging you
today,
my therapist tells me.
I think you've done more to help
me than
I've helped you.
you are so wise and insightful.
why thanks, I tell her.
you're such a good listener.
hey, I know,
let's switch, i tell
her. i'll sit there
and you sit or lie down
here on this chaise
lounge.
okay, she says, handing me
her pad. I tell her to take
her shoes off
and relax.
I look at her spiral notebook.
it's doodles mostly.
hearts with arrows through them.
I thought
she was taking notes.
there are
poorly drawn cats and dogs.
there are some
things drawn that appear to
be rather sexual.
donuts, and rocket ships.
oh my, I say out loud,
flipping the page over.
so tell me about your mother
I ask her.
remember, no
judgement here. we are here
to discover and heal.
