lost and found

you leave
a pair of black
leather gloves,
newly purchased,
in a men's room.
getting to
your car you
remember where
you left them,
so go back in,
hurriedly.
they fit so
nicely and had
the felt tips so
that you could
touch your phone
and dial a
number. you
had bonded
with those gloves,
the price
not yet paid,
through
the mail, so it
hurts a little
when you return
and see that they
are no longer
there. but they
are easily replaced,
and somehow
perhaps you have
given a gift
to someone with
cold hands
or perhaps a cold
heart for
not leaving them
at the customer
service desk, as
you surely would
have, being
the catholic boy
that you are.
