the fat can of pumpkin puree

says

not 15, i have to make

two large

pumpkin pies, not one,

as was the plan.

i really should read the labels.

so there they sit

on the coffee table,

warm, right out of the oven,

beside the can

of whipped cream,

and me

with a fork and knife,

an empty glass,

and a gallon

of cold milk,

ready to get into it.
