never happy unless
she was
unhappy,
i see her face on the old
video tapes.
a lemon
drop
in culottes.
a tiara on her head.
grouchy, pushing the camera
away.
oh those
fun days.
my son would say, dad,
her birthday
is coming up,
what can we get her
that will
put a smile on her face?
make her happy,
at least for one day.
nothing,
son, nothing.
she likes being this way.
