good neighbors

the quiet neighbors
may be from another 

country,
or a distant star, or
a planet just like ours.
hardly a wave,
hardly a nod or glance
occurs, as they go
about their day,
quiet in their ways.

minding their own business.

i rarely hear a bump 

against our shared wall,
or a note of music
or sound
from the television,
even the baby
has nothing to say
or cry about.
they are good neighbors,
the kind
i've always wanted,

this time

i'll try hard  not

to scare them away.
