it's a personal best,
I realize
taking
the pot roast out
of the oven without
the smoke alarm
going off.
the potatoes too.
and string beans on
the stove.
biscuits on the low pan.
the room is full of smoke,
but the window
is open,
and the fan going.
for once, I've
made a meal
without the screeching
pulse of the alarm.
