here, hold my purse

i'll be right out.
I want to try this on, she says.
here,
hold my purse.
so I do.
it's a heavy purse,
I want to open it and see
what's making
it so heavy as she changes
into another flowery dress
in the dressing room,
I don't. but then again,
maybe just a peek.
unsnap the clasp and quickly
take a look.
but no.
I'd rather not know about
the things
that are weighing her
down.
too much information.
let's keep the unknown
unknown.
what about this one, she
says, coming out in her
bare feet
spinning around.
lovely, I tell her. lovely.
buy two.
