the daily run

I remember running
in the rain,
the ice and snow.
the roads hard
and slippery.
my feet swinging wide
to stay upright.
how the wind
cut through my layered
clothes,
I felt the burn
of winter on my face.
I had to run. i
had to find a way
to go three miles,
or more.
now, these years later
when I see the bent
souls running
against the wind,
bone thin
and churning
towards some end,
I understand.
