nothing less nothing more

this line of laundry,
white, against a blue sky.
the cool grass long from
spring rain.
your mother at thirty,
the basket at her feet,
as happy as she'll ever
be. her hands pin
shirts and dresses, sheets
next to one another.
each child alive and well.
a husband at work,
about to come home.
a cool breeze lifts
her hair from her
shoulders. she wants
for nothing less,
nothing more.
