sweeping up

you take
the broom,
the mental broom
and begin
to sweep.
you start at
the back of your
mind, and
dig into the
corners for
webs and spiders,
small dust
balls
that have gathered.
you sweep forward,
clearing out
the debris
of your life.
the angry
people, the sad
ones, the ones
who never call
and don't really
care. you sweep
away the bad thoughts.
imagined slights.
you open the front
door of your
mind, letting
in the sun and
blue sky, then you
push the pile
out into the wind.
out of your mind.
