sweet icing

how lovely is
the wedding coat of
winter.
the bride in her
brilliant gown
of crystal sequins,
the falling
into crisp smooth
hills, covering
all, making
the trees and
hedges bow.
how marriages begin
this way,
but in little time
turns under the daily
wheels of give
and take, the exhaust
of real life
taking over, sweet
icing on the cake,
gone grey.
